The deal, in one paragraph
Bento is free and offline. Use it on files you have the right to touch, keep your own backups and passwords, and review important results before you rely on them. The app comes with no warranty — the full terms are in the cards below.
1What Bento is
Bento is a free (no price, no ads, no in-app purchases) offline PDF toolkit and document scanner for Android and iOS. It processes your documents entirely on your device — there is no account, no cloud and no sync. The only data that can ever leave the device is an anonymous crash report, and only if you explicitly turn on Settings → Privacy → “Send crash reports” (off by default); see the Privacy Policy for exactly what a report contains. These terms cover the app and this website. Installing or using Bento means you accept them; if you don’t, please don’t use the app.
2Your license to use Bento
Bento is proprietary software. We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to install and use Bento on devices you own for your own documents.
You may not copy, modify, reverse-engineer, or redistribute the app, except as permitted by applicable law or the app store terms. The Bento name and logo identify this product — please don’t use them to mislead people about other copies.
3What the app does
Version 1.0 ships nine tools — Merge PDFs, Organize Pages, Extract Pages, Compress PDF, Image → PDF, PDF → Image, Protect PDF, Unlock PDF and native Sign PDF — plus the document scanner (auto edge detection, crop, Original / Grayscale / B&W filters, multi-page review, rename and PDF export) and a local Files browser. The app says “More tools coming soon” in the Tools tab, and features may be added, changed or removed in updates.
Outputs are sanity-checked before they reach you (page counts and a render check), but PDF processing is complex — always review a result before you print it, sign it or send it somewhere important.
4Using Bento responsibly
- Process only files you own or are authorized to modify.
- Use Unlock only on password-protected files you have the right to open — not to defeat someone else’s protection.
- Don’t use the app for unlawful material or to infringe anyone’s rights.
- Respect other people’s privacy when scanning, sharing or publishing documents.
5Signatures carry legal weight
Please read this one carefully: stamping your drawn signature onto a PDF can create a legally binding document in your jurisdiction. Check the placement and the document’s contents before you sign, keep your device and files secure, and get independent advice if the document matters — Bento can’t verify your identity or the document’s validity.
6Backups are on you
Tools like Organize, Extract, Compress and Unlock transform your files, and results land in Documents/Bento (or the folder you chose). Keep copies of important originals before processing them. Because nothing is uploaded, there is no cloud copy to restore — if you delete a file or lose the device, it’s gone. Deleting a file in Bento deletes the local copy.
7Passwords
Protect PDF secures files with AES-256 encryption. Your password is never stored and can’t be recovered by us if you forget it — store it somewhere safe, and don’t share protected files’ passwords over insecure channels.
8No warranty
Bento is provided “as is”, without warranties of any kind — express or implied — including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy and non-infringement. We don’t promise error-free operation, any particular processing result, or that every document will remain readable after processing.
9Liability limit
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, the project owner and contributors aren’t liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages — including loss of data, files, documents or profits — arising from your use of, or inability to use, Bento, even if advised such damages were possible.
10Changes to the app and these terms
Bento is actively developed: tools and screens may evolve between updates. We may revise these terms too; the current version always lives on this page with its update date, and material changes will be flagged in the release notes. Continuing to use the app after a change means you accept the revised terms.
